With more than 150 different products, the value of Wisconsin’s agricultural specialty crop production is around $6.4 billion and generates nearly 35,000 jobs annually. To protect this valuable industry, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (WDATCP) has the responsibility to conduct pest survey and detection projects for a wide array of regulated and invasive pest species. In the context of this month’s Crop Protection issue of The Badger Common’Tater, it is timely and important to highlight a few of the nasty, “Stinking Bugs” that the WDATCP works to exclude, regulate and manage as potentially devastating and costly new invaders. Suzy Favor Hamilton Promotes Wisconsin Potatoes
On your mark. Get set. Go! Suzy Favor Hamilton is now the Wisconsin potato industry spokesperson.

Antigo Tater Trot Set for August 13
Area runners still have time to prepare for the 31st annual 10 kilometer Antigo Tater Trot which takes place Saturday, August 13, 2011. In addition to the 10k run, individuals may also participate in the one mile fun run or the 4 mile walk. All events begin at City Park in Antigo. The one mile fun run starts at 8:30am and is followed by the 4 mile fun walk and 10k competitive run at 9:00am. For more information, see the article in the July 2011 Badger Common’Tater magazine.
