We Don’t Need No Stinking Bugs!  By Dr. Russ Groves, UW-Madison Dept. of Entomology

With more than 150 different products, the value of Wisconsin’s agricultural specialty crop production is around $6.4 billion and generates nearly 35,000 jobs annually.  To protect this valuable industry, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (WDATCP) has the responsibility to conduct pest survey and detection projects for a wide array of regulated and invasive pest species.  In the context of this month’s Crop Protection issue of The Badger Common’Tater, it is timely and important to highlight a few of the nasty, “Stinking Bugs” that the WDATCP works to exclude, regulate and manage as potentially devastating and costly new invaders.  For the full story, read the July 2011 edition of The Badger Common’Tater.
