Wisconsin Spudmobile Supports Military at Illinois Fort2Base Race Event

Supporting our military and the men and women who have fought and continue to fight for our freedoms is an important thing to do. This coming Sunday, August 27th, the Wisconsin potato industry will be doing just that at the 7th annual Fort2Base Race event on the Naval Station Great Lakes in Great Lakes, Illinois.

The race occurs right on the base and gives civilians and military personnel the opportunity to participate together in a 5 or 10 nautical mile race as a way of mitigating questions about what life is like on a military base. The Spudmobile will be welcoming race participants and their families during the post-race party as well as handing out “Potato Performance Muffins” to show how America’s favorite vegetable helps fuel bodies for and recover from activity.

Besides being present for the race, the Spudmobile will also be a backdrop during the filming of an episode devoted specifically to Wisconsin potatoes! Mad Dog and Merrill, the gilling duo, will be grilling Wisconsin potatoes during the post-race party while filming the episode, per their sponsorship with the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association (WPVGA).

It’s truly a pleasure to bring this mobile education and interactive experience to Fort2Base in Illinois. And it’s great to work together with other communities that are part of Wisconsin’s buy local market and are committed to supporting their local economies, while also learning more about where their food comes from.

Through hands-on exhibits and eye-catching graphics, Spudmobile visitors will learn how farmers are stewards of the land and how they incorporate the latest technologies into their agricultural practices. When visiting the Spudmobile, guests will learn about various varieties of potatoes grown in Wisconsin, how they are planted and harvested, the nutritional facts about potatoes and some statistics about America’s favorite vegetable. Kids will be completely engaged as they play games on the interactive touch table and the Field to Fork exhibits.

This is the Wisconsin Spudmobile’s first appearance at Fort2Base. The vehicle makes frequent appearances at locations throughout the Midwest including stops at schools, community events and retailers who provide Wisconsin potatoes to their customers.
