Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association
Interview with Leonard Wild
2013 marks the 100th anniversary of seed potato certification in Wisconsin. In honor of this prestigious milestone, this month’s interview is with one of Wisconsin’s pioneers in seed potato production: Leonard Wild.
The founder of Wild Seed Farms in Antigo, Leonard began farming in 1948 in a partnership with his father-in-law, Lukas Sikora. At that time, the farm was like many others in the area, raising cows, chickens, pigs and a few acres of potatoes (about 20). Wild remembers that they bought their first certified seed potatoes (Chippewa and White Sebago) from another area grower named Bill Hoeft (a WPVGA Hall of Fame grower).
