As fall turns into winter, Wisconsin potato and vegetable growers are incredibly busy getting their quality products harvested, graded, sized, packaged and shipped to customers throughout the United States. Despite all the responsibilities demanding their time and attention, this fall growers made time for one more critical issue: The Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI).
The concept has been discussed for some time, but only recently came to the forefront when Wal-Mart told its suppliers they needed to be PTI compliant by November 1, 2013 (good faith effort) and no later than January 1, 2014 (fully compliant).
