MADISON — Visitors to Wisconsin Farm Technology Days can connect with University of Wisconsin-Extension specialists and agents about the latest research they are conducting as it relates to dairy, farm business, and water.

Specialist Central, located in the UW-Extension Education Station will feature interactive discussions with UW-Extension specialists, each day focusing on a specific topic. Four 30-minute sessions are planned each day at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. Each day will feature a new theme and round of specialists. Tuesday will focus on dairy nutrition, facilities, decision-making tools and reproduction; Wednesday will focus on dairy markets and policy, farm succession and farm business; and Thursday will feature updates on soil health, cover crops, and natural resource protection.

Tuesday, July 11 (Dairy)

10 a.m. – David Kammel, Farmstead Engineering Specialist; facilities and modernization
11 a.m. – Randy Shaver, Dairy Nutrition Specialist; nutrition
1 p.m. – Victor Cabrera, Dairy Systems Management Specialist; decision-making tools
2 p.m. – Paul Fricke, Dairy Cattle Reproduction Specialist; reproduction

Wednesday, July 12 (Farm Business & Marketing)

10 a.m. – Brian Gould, Dairy Markets and Policy Specialist; dairy markets
11 a.m. – Joy Kirkpatrick, Farm Family Communications Specialist; farm succession
1 p.m. – Mark Stephenson, Director, Center for Dairy Profitability; dairy policy
2 p.m. – Brenda Boetel, Crop and Livestock Markets Specialist; ag markets

Thursday, July 13 (Water)

10 a.m. – Aaron Pape, Discovery Farms and Jamie Patton, Shawano County Agriculture Agent; soil health and cover crops
11 a.m. – Ken Bradbury, Director and State Geologist, Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey; groundwater in Kewaunee County
1 p.m. – John Panuska, Irrigation and Soils Engineering Specialist; tile system components and inlet protection
2 p.m. – Kevin Masarik, Groundwater Educator, Center for Watershed Science and Education; reducing nitrate losses to groundwater

UW-Extension specialists and county educators will be available throughout the UW-Extension Education Station each day to engage with farmers on a wide variety of topics and practices.
