GMO Bill Signed into Law

President Obama ended speculation after a 2-week wait and signed the GMO labeling bill into law on July 29, preempting Vermont’s law. S. 764, a compromise between Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts and ranking member Debbie Stabenow, was passed by the Senate on July 7 in a 63-30 vote and by the House on July 14 by a margin of 306-117. As mentioned last week, Congress left much to be decided via a rulemaking process that will be intense and face close scrutiny.
