Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association

Potato Industry Food Drive for Kids

WPVGA Members,

For the first-time ever, the potato industry is teaming up with Second Harvest of Central Florida to provide Hi-Five Kids Packs to feed insecure children in the Orlando area. Hi-Five Kids Packs are weekend meal kits that students in need can take home on Fridays so they have food over the weekend. Idahoan and Basic American Foods both generously agreed to provide shelf-stable potato products to be included in the kits.

NPC is seeking donations from the entire potato community and is asking you to help to reach their goal. Please consider making a donation on behalf of your state association and also ask your members to donate by emailing them, adding it to your newsletters, and mentioning it at your upcoming meetings. This is an opportunity for all members of the potato industry, not just attendees of Potato Expo, to demonstrate a commitment to giving insecure children food and a better chance at success in school.

NPC has set a goal to provide a minimum of 2,000 food packs, which would provide weekend packs to every student in need at one elementary school through the end of the school year. The donation will be presented to Second Harvest of Central Florida during the Potato Expo.

Thank you to the Idaho Potato Commission and the Maine Potato Board who have already pledged their support.
