Potato Industry Sponsors Feed My Starving Children
WPVGA members, along with their families and friends, will gather at the Noel Hangar at the Stevens Point Municipal Airport on Saturday, June 18 to pack 100,000 servings of MannaPack™ Potato meals, developed by the non-profit Christian charitable organization, Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). MannaPack Potato servings are formulated to prevent starvation in children using dehydrated potatoes, vitamins and minerals.
Ali Carter and her husband, Mike, CEO of Bushmans’, Inc., Rosholt, were instrumental in bringing the FMSC mobile packing event to Wisconsin. The Carters state that it will cost about $22,000 to fund the mobile packing event, and 250 volunteers are needed to work two-hour shifts between 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Fundraising is coming along very well, with major donations from the Wisconsin Potato Growers Auxiliary, the WPVGA, the WPVGA Associate Division and the Wisconsin Seed Potato Improvement Association. Please contact Mike Carter (715-677-4533) at Bushmans’, Inc. if you or your farm/business would like to make a donation.
The greatest need at this time is for volunteer workers. As Ali Carter says, “Two hours of your time will make an incredible difference for a child.” Anyone interested in volunteering to help at this event is asked to click on the following link and register online: http://volunteer.fmsc.org/Register/mobilepack/event.aspx?event=1606-088WAU
