This storage season has been particularly interesting to me as a storage manager. The age of the crop has been a concern. Processing potatoes coming through the lab have had internal defects, odd shapes and highly variable specific gravity within individual fields. In some cases tubers have started breaking dormancy requiring a second application of sprout inhibitors. With these challenges in mind the ultimate question seems to be, “Will my potatoes make it into late storage?” For the rest of the story, get the February 2013 issue of The Badger Common’Tater.
