2013 marks the 100th anniversary of seed potato certification in Wisconsin. In honor of this prestigious milestone, this month’s interview is with one of Wisconsin’s pioneers in seed potato production: Long-time seed potato farmer Billie Bula of Northern Sand Farms in Mole Lake.
When Polish immigrant Stanley Bula came to Wisconsin in the early 1900’s, he could not have known that four generations later, many members of his offspring would be deeply involved in the potato industry of Wisconsin. In fact, the name “Bula” has become synonymous with potato production.
