Interview with Dan Kakes

Interview with Dan KakesEditor’s Note:  This month’s interview is dedicated to David Kakes and the entire Kakes family. The WPVGA sends sincere wishes that time will ease their pain.

Kakes Farms, Ltd. is a multi-generation family farm located just northeast of Antigo, Wisconsin. Including some rented land, the farm raises over 675 acres of foundation and certified seed potatoes along with oats and hay.

Founded on 100 acres of land in Bryant, Wisconsin by Joseph Kakes and two of his brothers in the early 1930s, the farm was originally a potato and dairy operation. Joseph’s son, Eugene Kakes and his wife, Lois, took over the farm in the mid-1950s. They converted the farm to strictly potatoes and grain, and eventually focused on certified seed potatoes in the 1970s.
